JOB TITLE - Mechanical Design Engineer
REPORTING TO : Engineering Manager/Lead Mechanical Engineer
LOCATION : Scarborough
The primary role of the Mechanical Design Engineer is to undertake mechanical design activities as directed by the company. In addition to the primary role, the design engineer will also provide Technical support to the company.
DUTIES
- Generate mechanical and/or panel layout designs to information detailed in the customer and companies specified requirements.
- Undertake design activities within the companies laid down design, document issue and control procedures.
- Produce layout designs on the companies 2D AutoCAD and 3D Solidworks CAD systems.
- Ensure that full production support documentation is created and issued to the relevant departments.
- Undertake work on contracts as directed by the Lead Mechanical Design Engineer.
- Endeavour to meet the time scales laid down on the engineering schedule for completion and issue of information.
- Provide support to other sections and departments of the company as required.
- Liaise with the project lead electrical design engineer to ensure a fit for purpose design is created.
- Undertake any other tasks, as deemed appropriate, by the Engineering Manager.
- In dealings with outside personnel, present the company in a professional manner so as to enhance the reputation and standing of the company in the local community and within the industry.
- Ensure that all work is carried out in a safe manner and if required recommendations are made for changes with regard to health and safety issues.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications -
- A suitable qualification (HND or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Design Engineering is required as a minimum for this role.
Skills -
- Experience using AutoCAD software package is required as a minimum and 3D Solidworks is a desirable attribute. Microsoft office including Outlook/Word/Excel/Power point & basic understanding of Microsoft project is also required as a minimum.
- Experience using MRPII systems to create BOM¡¦s and create Technical Specifications is required.
- Experience working on the design of Power Generators and/or UPS systems is highly desirable and design knowledge of the following would be highly advantageous:-
- Noise reduction
- Fuel system design
- Weight distribution using AVM¡¦s
- Exhaust systems
- Cooling systems
- Site surveying
- Understanding of sheet metal design
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
You will need to be a good communicator, very organized, methodical, a problem solver, multi-tasking and have project management skills/experience.
