Main Purpose   

The purpose of this role is to breakdown client enquiries and prepare detailed tenders/quotations that allow the company to tender target opportunities competitively, successfully and above all profitably. The tender return shall demonstrate a sound understanding of the client requirements, accurately estimating our costs whilst ensuring we utilise the company's strengths to maximise the organisations competitive advantages.

You will be expected to support the business in client meetings and tender presentations to help secure tendered opportunities. Using relevant industry experience, you will be expected to help develop and refine the tendering process to improve efficiency, clarity, and accuracy while reducing the overall cost of sales through standardised and structured Bid Management 'best practice'. Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors

Harmonise tendering working practices across company profit centres - Rail, Utilities, Private Networks and the Northern Office.

Once an opportunity is converted into an order you will be required to ensure the smooth transfer of responsibility from Sales to Operations and, where required, will support the project delivery going forward.

 

Key Responsibilities:      

 

  • - Assist in co-ordinating the tendering process from start to finish
  • - Developing, maintaining, refining and standardising the estimating system & tools
  • - Liaising with all areas of the business as necessary to support the tender process
  • - Establish quantity of work scope from enquiry documents in a transparent manner
  • - Provide support to the Programme Planner to produce tender construction programmes
  • - Present to line manager a financial analysis of the estimate in the organisations format for review
  • - Comply with client tendering guidelines and procedures
  • - Collate enquiries for suppliers and subcontractors
  • - Identification and elimination of hazards in line with the methodology of CDM for all projects
  • - Engaging with subcontractors and encouraging competition and diversity of supply chain
  • - Representing the Organisation at client meetings

 

Competencies:

- Will hold a formal qualification related to Electrical Engineering or Electrical Estimating discipline

- A sound understanding of Construction Design Management (CDM)

- Understanding of the planning and sequencing of construction of projects

- Must be willing to attend safety courses and hold safety certificates

- Strong background in Estimating, Quantity Surveying, Project & Bid Management

- Strong background in Utilities, Private Networks and projects in the UK Rail Industry

- Understand and interpret detailed Technical Works Scope documentation

- Identify, quantify and mitigate areas of commercial risk in any new enquiry

- Co-ordinate input from multiple internal and external functions

- Plan workload and deliver to dead lines

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills

- Artistic and creative nature for the development of tender submissions

- Excellent English Language skills required in the preparation of techno-commercial tender submissions

- Knowledge of applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures within Quantity Surveying and Estimating relevant to the a-fore mentioned sectors.

- Advanced IT skills including (but not limited to) Microsoft Excel, Project & PowerPoint

 

Health & Safety Responsibilities

               

- Comply with the companies Health and Safety processes & procedures and apply where required to estimating and tender submissions. While complying with Legislative and HSE requirements.

- To recognise the social and ethical importance of environmental best practice and will strive to achieve continual improvement in identifying our environmental aspects and minimising any adverse impacts which may arise from them.

- To comply with or exceeding legal requirements.
